Joseph Berger

Joseph Berger has been a reporter with the New York Times for thirty years, writing about religion, education, neighborhoods and issues in the Jewish world. He won the 2011 Peter Kihss Award for a career’s work. He is the author of Displaced Persons: Growing Up American After the Holocaust, a memoir about his family's experience as refugees. He also chronicled the dramatic changes in American ethnic life in The World in a City: Traveling the Globe through the Neighborhoods of the New New York.
